Early in her studies, Rebecca Venn concluded that the human figure was her primary interest. As her undergraduate education offered little in this area, she undertook a long period of self-directed study in figurative drawing and painting. That personal history of experience found in the human form fascinates her. The way light defines strength, fragility, beauty and resilience is a never ending challenge and passion.
She discovers something new each time through the gritty marks of graphite or charcoal, the delicacy of colored pencil, the flow of watercolor; and sometimes the deliberate pace of oil painting.
It is that personal history of experience that fascinates me. The way light and shadow define the strength, fragility, and beauty of a variety of forms and the resilience of all that is human.
